The Metamorphosis of Woman

Sometimes in conversations with friends, I utter words of encouragement or “wisdom” that I need for myself. This poem was born from one of those experiences. I’m thankful for the many different “forms” of myself that have existed and excited to get to know those of the future.
— Poet Simone

To the girl I wish I was

And sometimes still long to be

Stop chasing the past

You are not her anymore

Stand tall

Grounded in the woman you have become

You are ever evolving

So you are still getting to know her

You may spend the rest of your life getting to know her in her many different forms

(And that’s okay)

Give grace

You are but a butterfly

And it is time to spread your wings

Stretch them wide

Give them a try

Fly!

Touch down in places that might be scary

You will find your path

Don’t be timid

Your bright colors are meant as a deterrent and to attract

Remember, wherever you land is where you belong

The woman you are becoming does not apologize for taking up space

You were created to be a very integral part of the human race
