Let Her Roar

There have been several different occasions in my life where I felt unable to speak for one reason or another. Most recently, during a rough patch, I felt silenced by fear of my own mind. Coupled with physical pain, I felt like I did not know myself anymore. Six months later, I am more in touch with the woman inside me. I have found my roar!
— Poet Simone

Own the woman in you

let her roar and come to the surface

Make sure she is nourished

Feed her well

Not just with food

But with knowledge

Read whatever you can get your hands on

Consume poems and essays and even children’s literature like they are water

Let them flow through your veins

Let the words strengthen your spine

So you walk upright into rooms you never thought you would be welcome  in

Take up space everywhere you go

Roar!

Let it be guttural

Fill the room

Because your voice matters

Be the woman you were born to be

Embrace her from within

Then help her to grow and shine in a world that might not be ready for her

But know that as long as you are willing to own your roar

Ready or not

They must succumb when you surface

Show her love even on days when the mirror argues back

Gently remind her that self care is not selfish and that it is okay to put her needs ahead of others

When the roar gets weak, fan the flames by surrounding her with soul sisters who act as cheerleaders and prayer warriors

Your roar is your strength

Don’t swallow it

Don’t let anyone silence you

Remember

All of you deserves to take up space
